Need help on choosing laptop battery replacement?

Question by eltee115: Need help on choosing laptop battery replacement?
I have a Dell Latitude D630 laptop whose battery is dead – When I look at Dell’s replacements they are expensive and customer’s gave them lousy ratings – How about a non OEM battery and from where and how to pick a quality seller and power rating – I fell kind of overwhelmed. Help!

Answer by turbo360
Yes, thats true.. OEM batteries are expensive. There’re a few online stores you can get a non OEM from, but prices will vary. If you want to do some bargain shopping, then you’ll have to compare prices from different online stores. For non OEM batteries for dell and other brand laptops; go to www.lowcost-computerparts-accessories.com to compare prices
Goodluck!

Q&A: Can I Replace My Dell Laptop Battery With Another Brand?

Question by sweetbrista: Can I Replace My Dell Laptop Battery With Another Brand?
I have an Inspiron E1505. The battery (85 WHr 9-Cell) died about 6 months ago. The battery lasted about a year and a half. Replacement batteries are $ 155 each from Dell so I haven’t had the money to replace it yet. I found a site called Laptop Battery Depot that is selling the same battery for much less — $ 87. Still a lot but it won’t kill me nearly as much. My Dell battery says, “Replace only with Dell battery module type UD265. To be used only in Dell Notebook Computers.”

If I replace the battery with the off-brand version, will my laptop explode or something? Or is that warning just a way to make sure people buy the product from Dell?

Plus, the Laptop Depot website has a 2-yr warranty on all their batteries so it seems like a way better deal (as long as it doesn’t cause my laptop to explode). Dell has NO warranty on their batteries — or their AC adapters. Probably because they’d never make any money and either would have to make a product that works or replace everybody’s batteries and adapters every year! I have to buy a new adapter from Dell for another $ 70 — this will be my third time since buying the laptop 2 years ago! It’s coming apart at the end that plugs into the computer. And no, I do not pull it out of the wall, smash it, whatever – most of the time, my laptop sits on the desk all by itself. And since there are dozens of reviews on Dell’s website complaining about the exact same issue, you’d think Dell would admit there’s a problem with the design and fix it.
My warranty was up in June anyway, so I’m not too worried about that! Thanks!

yes. there are 3rd party bettery makers out there who specialize in making cheaper batteries. the thing is if you are still under warranty and you use a 3rd party battery that will void you warrenty. so if you use it and something bad happens just make sure not to tell them you were using a 3rd party battery.

I want to buy a new battery for my laptop, which shop is best in laptop battery
I have a HP HSTNN-CB72 laptop that I bought over a year ago. I’ve searched on the net and not been able to find batteries that I can buy to put in my laptop.
Anybody know if I can buy a new battery and from where (in the UK)

Thanks!

Answer by MICHAEL S
As your laptop is fairly new, you should be able to get a replacement one quite easy, I would stay clear from cheap ones you might find on ebay or similar, as loads are imports from china and therefore might not be genuine and my not be safe, have heard of stories of cheap ones over heating and catching fire.
PC World or curries are a good start, or go onto HP website, they might have online shop or certainly they will advise where you should be able to buy one.

Laptop Battery?

Question by TheWonderbrah: Laptop Battery?
I have a laptop with a 9-cell battery but I basically use my computer as a desktop. I have separate keyboard, and mouse which I use. I have had my computer since Aug 20th, and have not yet used the battery.

Is there something I should do in order to maintain my battery life?

My friend told me to drain it once a week and fill it back up, and I have also heard that leaving my computer plugged at night is bad.

Is this true? And what should I do regarding my battery if im not really planning on using all that much?

I will use it on vacations and stuff in the future, and at University,.

Answer by JDM2
Yes about every other week take it off the charger and let it almost die then plug it back in and that should help your battery life, its worked for my laptop.

Would SSD drives be better battery life for laptop than a standard HDD?

Question by BENN: Would SSD drives be better battery life for laptop than a standard HDD?
I am planning to change my standard mechanical drive to ssd on my laptop, I am doing this because I believe it will consume less power than the HDD. Is it OK if i go with it?

Best answer:

Answer by Vincent Del Vecchio
Yes as long as you research if the drive will fit first.

SSD drives use less energy and run a lot faster then a normal HDD.
They also don’t run the risk of being destroyed by a magnet or a accidental drop that destroys the internal mechanism.

The only con to SSD drives are that they’re quite expensive at the moment ranging from $ 1-$ 2 per GB

How to take care of you laptop power cord and battery?

Question by : How to take care of you laptop power cord and battery?
I bought a new computer about a year ago and every few months the power cord would stop working (it short-circuits or something.). I’ve gone through 3 power cords already. The third one stopped working last night. I was told that the laptop battery was probably involved. So I’m wondering, what are some things I can do to extend the life of my laptop power cord and battery and in general how am I suppose to take care of the power cord and battery?

Best answer:

Answer by Masked Musketeer
Do you wind your powercords up when you store them? Generally not a good idea because it causes the wires inside the cord to become twisted and will eventually fray and break.

Don’t wind the cords. Just do a simple figure 8 loop and use the velcro strap to hold it together.

read http://www.techimo.com/forum/imo-community/83886-tie-twist-extension-cords-print.html for a cord wrapping technique.

What is the real life battery time difference between Nehalem and Sandy Bridge core i3 laptops?

Question by : What is the real life battery time difference between Nehalem and Sandy Bridge core i3 laptops?
what would be the battery time difference between the laptops carrying Nehalem and Sandy Bridge Core i3 Processors?

Best answer:

Answer by Ben
That would depend on how you’re using them and which processors you’re looking at. The Core i3-330UM and Core i3-380UM are both Ultra-Low Voltage processors, which operate at half the power (18W vs 35W) of the normal processors. So those will get much better battery life than the Sandy Bridge Core i3 processors (of which there is currently only one- the Core i3-2310M). On the other hand, if you’re maxing out the processors, they’ll all get the same battery life since they have the same power cap. The Sandy Bridge processor will just be about 15% faster. I suppose you could get a bit more battery life in the normal case, where the processor isn’t using it’s full capacity. I’m not sure it would be much because a good chunk of the power is for the screen and the graphics card, not the processor.

What 13.3″ laptops have good processor speed and battery life?

Question by : What 13.3″ laptops have good processor speed and battery life?
I’ve been browsing for ages at laptops in the 13-14″ screen size bracket and still feel a bit lost! I’d like good battery life from a reliable brand, I was looking at a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge 13 but the processor was an i3 running at 1.33GHz – the processor name is good, but I thought that speed wasn’t?

Advice would be brilliant! Thank you!!

Question by : Does it cause any harm if I use my Laptop with direct power and removed the battery?
I use laptop mostly at home so I have removed the battery and using it with direct power source. Because I don’t want to overheat the battery.

PS. I don’t use Desktop computer because I like to surf internet from my couch which is very convenient with a laptop.

Thats what you should do when plugged in for more than a day
Charge the battery up and remove it
It will last longer
It will hold 85% of its charge for 4 months

If you use your laptop on battery every day of course you want to keep it on charge.

Where can I acquire a new battery for my Dell Studio 1557 laptop?

Question by : Where can I acquire a new battery for my Dell Studio 1557 laptop?
I bought a Dell Studio 1557 laptop on April 2010 and as of now (October 2011) the laptop’s system has just informed me that the battery is reaching the end of its usable life. So, basically, I’ve owned it for a year and a half and the battery is already dying. I tried checking Amazon for a new one, but the ratings/reviews are very mixed. And thus I tried going to Dell’s own website only to find mixed reviews on the batteries they were selling, and several of the reviews said the batteries tend to die after a year, even though those batteries are expensive (around $ 145).

So, my question is, is it possible for me to buy a battery (not necessarily a Dell one) that can work with my laptop (Dell Studio 1557) and that has a decent usable life? I really don’t want to pay that much money for something that will wear out quickly.

You can try ebay, amazon, or craigslist.
